From home to high-rise – a great moment for all of us! On November 27, 2017, our founder/ CTO Jens Struckmeier and co-founder/ CEO Nicolas Röhrs proudly cut the – how could it be otherwise – green opening ribbon for the inauguration of our new data center in the 110 meter high Eurotheum in Frankfurt. According to the motto “The Future of Compute” we celebrated this exciting moment with a total of 100 invited guests and high-caliber speakers. Of course, this did not go unnoticed. In addition to the WirtschaftsWoche, the FAZ and the hessenschau reported about our opening ceremony.

“Projects like the Eurotheum are absolutely necessary if we want to keep Frankfurt as an attractive location for data centers and at the same time achieve the set climate protection targets”, said Max Weber, climate protection manager of the energy department of the city of Frankfurt am Main and speaker at our housewarming party. He refers to the master plan 100% of the city of Frankfurt: by 2050, the city wants to switch to 100% renewable energy. Of course, as a former startup, we are very pleased to be able to contribute to this lighthouse project with our green technology. The speakers Frank Zachmann, CEO of the Digital Hub FrankfurtRheinMain e.V., and Detlev Osterloh, Director of Innovation and Environment at the IHK Frankfurt am Main, welcomed us as an innovative and green company to the new location. According to Zachmann, through the combination of ecology and economy as well as climate protection and digitalization, we are a model for the economic development of the city and strengthen it in international competition. Detlev Osterloh praised our successful combination of industry and service in the course of digitization.

In the early evening our visitors were able to get an idea of our new server rooms. In small groups, the guests were led behind the scenes of the data center on the seventh floor of the Eurotheum and were provided with all sorts of practical information about the technology by our cloud experts. The premises in the former ECB provide space on two floors for a total of 84 server racks, which are equipped with the latest generation of computer and storage units. When fully equipped, the servers produce up to 300 kW of waste heat on each floor, which is absorbed and transported away from the heat hotspots with minimal loss only, thanks to a highly efficient direct cooling system. In addition to the classic Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), which is the needs-based leasing of computing capacities in the cloud, all tenants of Eurotheum and external companies can use physical servers as a Hosted Private Cloud. Moreover we will offer training and workshops in our facilities, for example how to build a cloud with OpenStack.

With delicious snacks, sparkling drinks and relaxed networking, a very successful and exciting day finally ended for the invited guests and the Cloud&Heat team. We thank all customers, prospects and press representatives who have accepted our invitation and made the evening unforgettable! Now we look forward to the final launch of our cloud infrastructure in the first quarter of 2018 and to making Frankfurt / Main a bit greener with our IT infrastructure.
